On February 10, 2016, Melissa Christian (Buddy Christian Foundation), Sgt. Richard McDougald (Athens-Clarke County Police Department), and a contingent of other Athens-Clarke County Police Department employees presented a $5,000 check to the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support. The $5,000 donation was made to Loran Smith on behalf of Athens area law enforcement who raised funds buy selling “Cops for a Cure” t-shirts during the 4th quarter of 2015.
This is the third year in a row that Cops for a Cure has made a donation to Loran Smith. This year’s donation was made in memory of Nira Haggard who passed away on January 26, 2016.
